Genre:
The genre of this book is crime/thriller, which is right up my alley. It has always been my favourite genre to dive into, so thought I would give this one a little nosey.
First thoughts:
The book started off quite tame, I wasn't particularly getting into it within the first 3 chapters, but then along comes the 4th chapter with it's mini cliffhanger and I'm on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what's happening, who's done it and the biggest question is why did they do it?
Storyline:
The whole book revolves around this serial killer, who has a signature move so to speak, they take one earring, a little souvenir of a job well done in their dark twisted way. The main character Eve, doesn't particularly have a connection to these murders other than she grew up in the time they were occurring.
The connection comes in the most bizarre way. By a cassette tape, old, classic and timeless. Memories once lived within the chambers of this cassette, a young Eve and her mum, and then a crossover of her mum saying she knows who the killer is, that she's not missing, she's dead. Cryptic, calculated and leaves you wanting more.
Throughout the book small passages from a book within appear, showing small snippets of the victims lives, who they were before they became just a number. This is quite nice, it takes you away from the story but in away it gives the story more depth and makes the read that little bit more interesting.
There is multiple times of is it this person, that person, or is it simply just someone we don't even know. I can safely say when I found out who it was, I wasn't expecting it, my mind was on someone else.
Style:
Kerry has written this with artistry, it's articulate and perfect in every way. It's not a story where you can easily guess who from the first page, it sends you round into a labyrinth and makes you second guess your own mind.
Rating:
My rating for this book is a 5/5 - I will be taking a look at more books written by this author. I have already started reading another by this author.
If you're looking to read this book yourself you can read it on kindle, paperback and audible!
